Rockwave Festival – Athens
Everyone was looking forward to arriving in Greece the night before the gig and having the next morning to catch some sunshine…
The three-hour plane ride passed by swiftly and pleasantly…
LSK and Nobby don their sunnies ready for the bright Athens sun!
Blissy was swooning with the heat…

Everybody always wants a photo with Nobby…. now I don’t know if it was the sunshine that did it, but today he agreed to a few select pics…

Nobby was otherwise preoccupied…

…as was Maxi – watching one of the many demonstrations taking place in Athens and other Greek cities at the moment…
These have been caused by their financial crisis, which has led to pay freezes and public spending cuts in a country that, on average, already has the lowest wages in western Europe…!!

…It turned out that this was one of many feeder marches ahead of the General Strike that will be taking place in 2 days time…(the 6th one to be held this year).
…and the perfect opportunity for Dave to get some video for his blog

Eventually we arrived at the hotel and everyone arranged to meet on the roof for beers and cocktails…
We had a perfect view of the Acropolis
…
Blissy was first(iest)….
…swiftly followed by Sudha…
…Dave…
…and gradually everyone else…

Maxi and Andy watch the sun start its descent over Athens

The next morning, Maxi and LSK head to the Acropolis…
…but in the super-strength lunchtime sun, the long walk uphill to the top didn’t seem like such a good idea, what with a gig to get to and all…

So it was back to the hotel roof for a beer and a cooling-off in the swimming pool…

…
All too soon it was time to head to the Festival…

…Meanwhile, LSK was giving the others a lesson in how to iron…!

The best thing about the festival season is the great chance to bump into people again…
This time it was Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas…
…Who was so happy to see everyone she decided to come and watch from the side of stage….

The Gig was beautiful…surrounded by lush mountains bathed in the sun…

Early the next morning it was straight to the airport to catch a plane to Edinburgh… T in the Park beckoned…
…
…The streets felt quite fractious on the way out of town…
…and when the departures board at the airport just said ‘CANCELLED’, we remembered that it was the national strike…

…
Six hours later, we managed to get a flight to Heathrow and a connecting one to Edinburgh…
Vegetarian Meal FAIL

It had all got too much for Harry, who couldn’t even finish his G+T..!!
